This client’s pied-à-terre studio in Manhattan was in dire need of a kitchen – but not just any kitchen. The brief included custom cabinetry in rich, hand-finished hardwoods, granite counter and stainless steel refrigerator, dishwasher, cooktop and convection microwave . . . all in a 55-inch recess.

And the client got everything on his wish list and more. Using the Arts & Crafts style, we framed the area with columns to give the room more architectural detail and make the kitchen a feature of the space. Every inch was used to provide the maximum amount of cabinet space, and where filler pieces would be the usual choice, we incorporated a base pull-out for even more storage.
